Synopsis
Sven Takraf did not set out to become a tyrant. He offered himself as a slave to repay his town's debt to a powerful wizard. He became a wizard so he could protect non-wizards from the monsters that roamed the land. He defended an outlaw wizard in hopes of preserving the lives of his apprentices. He worked tirelessly to end the tyranny of wizardry.
Obsessed with his goal of teaching everyone to wield magic and frustrated by the wizards who thwart him, Sven stops sacrificing himself and starts sacrificing others. He alienates his wife and his teacher with his uncharacteristic arrogance. He sends his most loyal friends to fight his enemies and offers them no assistance. He orchestrates a civil war to generate support for his magical revolution.
While he imposes his new order, another wizard undermines his efforts, enslaving Sven's people. And the civil war has awoken the vast, ancient enemies of humankind — foes that have twice nearly destroyed civilization. Against these odds, Sven must reunite the country he tore apart, redeem himself to his loved ones and regain the humility that drove him to a life of service.
