The Adventures of Reur
The continuing story of Reur regarded by the Mar as the first mapmaker. It is a actually a collection of shorter stories that have been arranged chronologically into a saga. It is an example of the Mar mapmaker tradition any story about the adventures of a reckless and foolish explorer who survives trials through a combination of cleverness, stubborness, and dumb luck.
Posted by Matt on 2/6/06: This was the first set of stories I worked on when we decided to start the site. At the time, I think the history was just past the arrival of the Kalkorae. The stories were written in five multi-week periods, interrupted by "Mundane, Magocrat and Mapmaker," "Affe and the Drakes," and "Memory of Seruvus." As of this posting, it's not complete. I think.
Posted by Eric on 2/11/2006: The genesis of Reur is entirely Matt's doing. Somewhere along the line, he named the boundary between "civilized" Marrishland and Drake-dominated regions the Fens of Reur. At the time, I doubt he had any reason in mind for giving it such a name. Upon reflection, though, he determined it had to have been named after the mapmaker who discovered it. This mapmaker soon morphed into the first mapmaker on the subcontinent.
About the only other comment I have on this is that I can really see the influence of Terry Pratchett on Matt's writing, in this story.
