Bera Branehilde's Work (1805 - 1826 I.D.)
Bera Branehilde was among the this second generation of Veravenaton, inheriting the Mar oral tradition from her scholarly father when she was little more than a child. Not satisfied with passing meaningless words from generation to generation, however, Bera set out to translate the entire oral tradition into modern language. For more than twenty years, she consulted linguists and other scholars throughout Marrishland. She even spent some time as a Mar diplomat to the Kalkorae in the North in order to gain a better understanding of the language. Even though their language had evolved during the intervening centuries - especially since all their libraries had been destroyed during the Hammerfall War - Bera was able to recreate enough of the original language to translate Vangard's Rules of Governance and several works of magic theory and instruction. Bera passed her knowledge to others, instructing them to pass it only to those who would understand the texts, not just recite them verbatim. This oral tradition soon became known as Bera's Unwritten Laws.
Few scholars associate Bera Branehilde with the Veravenaton, and it is known that her father's colleagues and students largely did not approve of her work, believing translation tainted the linguistic purity of Vangard's Rules of Governance. Bera's great project went on to be the single most often cited text in Mar history, while the second generation of Veravenaton would squander the glory gained for the group by their predecessors.
