The Erden Revolt (ca. 710 I.D.)
The Erden chose this moment to prove their usefulness to the Kalkorae by quitting the war. When the Kalkorae attempted to force the Erden to obey, what began as a crippling but peaceful protest broke into outright violence. Many of the Erden attacked and destroyed conduits vital to the Kalkoraen infrastructure at the battle front. The Kalkorae treated this attack as outright treason and set out to capture every Erden they could. As they did, in fact, need the Erden to defeat the Totanbeni, they only executed the worst offenders. They forced the rest of the tribe into slavery, setting them to work building and supplying muscle energy for conduits and harvesters.
The Erden were none too keen on lives of slavery, and most who escaped the initial roundup defected to the Totanbeni. These refugees bought safety for their tribe by revealing everything they knew about the Kalkorae and their devices. Armed with this knowledge, the magical might of Erd, and a large number of human sacrifices intended to bolster the reserves of magic in their burial mounds, the Totanbeni fortified their position while the Kalkorae scrambled to rebuild the damage the Erden had inflicted to their infrastructure. Despite numerous battles, the Totanbeni held almost all their remaining lands during the next two centuries.
